Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including architectural engineering environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, geophysics, geodesy, control engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, earth science, atmospheric sciences, forensic engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, offshore engineering, quantity surveying, coastal engineering, surveying, and construction engineering.

VITS has started B.Tech Civil Engineering in 2011, with an intake of 60 .There are four faculties working in the department. The students of the department are allowed to participate in Intra and Intercollegiate level paper presentation, technical Quizzes and Project work competitions. They are also allowed to participate in literary competitions, cultural activities and Sports and Games to boost their social morals. The students bought laurels to the department and to the college, in turn. Industrial visits are arranged for students. The Civil Engineering Association formed by the students for the benefit of students to impart additional knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering apart from the prescribed curriculum by organising Guest Lectures (by Professors from IIT, NIT, BITS, IIIT, Premier Universities & Industries), Technical Quiz, Workshops, Model Making Contests and also to develop the organising capabilities among the students.

The department has well equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for Surveying, Soil Testing, Cement and Concrete Testing, Highway Material Testing, Quality Testing of water and Waste water samples.
