About


The department of mechanical engineering was established in the year 1999 with an intake of 60 students and increased to 180 students from year 2014 onwards. The department also has a post graduate program in Design & Manufacturing with a sanctioned intake of 18 students. · University ranks, gold medals is a regular feature of the department.

Vision

To develop into an advanced centre for exceptionally good Education and Research in the field of Mechanical engineering design, materials and manufacturing Technologies, consistent with the contemporary and futuristic needs of society through optimized technologies.

Mission

  • To provide strong foundations in mechanical engineering supported by matching laboratory facilities in an excellent academic environment conducive to learning.

  • To implement learning centered teaching practices and deliver Industry ready students with professional ethics, concern for environmental safety & awareness of societal problems in the design-production cycle of mechanical engineering products/systems.

  • To forge active alliances with mechanical engineering industries, reputed R&D institutions and academia to appreciate the complexities of arriving at solutions to real world mechanical engineering problems and the interfaces required with other disciplines.

  • To take stock of the emerging technologies and make the department of mechanical engineering a center of excellence for academics & research.

Programme Educational Objectives

  • To implement advanced pedagogical techniques for imparting fundamental principles of Engineering sciences and good oral and written communication skills.

  • To inculcate technical skills to design, develop, document and manufacture mechanical engineering products within stipulated time frames & quality aspects and extend the same into his/her professional career.

  • To impart knowledge in problem solving methods in mechanical engineering using mathematical tools, laws of nature derived from fundamental sciences and decision trees.

  • To train students in understanding the impact of the manufacturing practices, usage aspects of each mechanical engineering system/subsystem/component/part on the environment and to enable them to take remedial measures.
