About Mechanical Engineering

The department of mechanical engineering was established in the year 1999 with an intake of 60 students and increased to 180 students from year 2014 onwards. The department also has a post graduate program in Design & Manufacturing with a sanctioned intake of 18 students. · University ranks, gold medals is a regular feature of the department.

  • To provide strong foundations in mechanical engineering supported by matching laboratory facilities in an excellent academic environment conducive to learning.

  • To implement learning centered teaching practices and deliver Industry ready students with professional ethics, concern for environmental safety & awareness of societal problems in the design-production cycle of mechanical engineering products/systems.

  • To forge active alliances with mechanical engineering industries, reputed R&D institutions and academia to appreciate the complexities of arriving at solutions to real world mechanical engineering problems and the interfaces required with other disciplines.

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principle of mathematics, natural science and engineering science.

  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental

  • Students were enabled to apply the core mechanical engineering subjects related to Design, Thermal, and Manufacturing knowledge in analysis & to conduct experimental investigation of complex mechanical products / systems.

  • Graduates were enabled to use the modern modeling and finite element analysis software in developing the new mechanical products and also demonstrates the social responsibility, professional ethics and environmental safety in their professional and personal life.

  • Co-curricular activities in collaboration with industries, R&D centers and professional bodies and also extra-curricular activities enable the students to acquire organizing abilities, team & competitive spirit, communication & management skills and knowledge of emerging technologies.

HOD Profile

Dr.B. Singaravel is working as Associate Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering department at Vignan Institute of Technology & Science, Deshmukhi, affiliated to JNTUH, Hyderabad. He had about 10 years of teaching experience. To his credit he had 4 patents, 6 book/book-chapters, 50 reputed peer reviewed International/national journals and conference papers. He is member of various professional bodies such as ISTE and IEI.  Research topics of interest are Machining and Optimization. Funded Projects carried out DST SERB in the area of machining.
