Reopening of Engineering Colleges

Colleges all around the country have been abruptly shut since mid-March 2020 and since then students have been anticipating various dates as to when and how will the colleges reopen.

Students who were studying in colleges far away were asked to go back to their respective states and now the uncertainty has them thinking about Engineering Colleges reopening and other institutions around the nation.

In the past few months, various decisions have been made by the government for the same but, the not-so-surprising situation never allowed the on-campus classes to start again.

However, recently the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the state officials to commence on-campus classes for various universities and colleges in the state by October 15.

This would require conducting admission exams and thus, directions have been given to get the exams conducted by the end of September month. Hence most probably engineering colleges in Hyderabad and other institutions would be ready to reopen by mid-October with all the necessary precautions and instructions.

Apart from that various other decisions were also made in this meeting concerning different aspects of education. To begin with, the Minister shared his concern regarding the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) at the college and university level saying that they must see a drastic change in this ratio since the government has taken steps for fee reimbursement and incentives.

The Andhra government has also come up with a new education policy for the academic year 2020-2021 where all three degree courses offered by the colleges in the state will have a mandatory 10-month trade training followed by the fourth and the last year where they will have to attend skill development and job orientation classes in case, they want to. However, they will have to decide whether to study for three or four years before getting started with the course.

Moreover, the state officials have been directed to resume work on starting the various colleges and universities which were in the process before the virus outbreak happened such as the Tribal engineering college at Kurupam, state-level Tribal university at Araku, and other colleges at Prakasam and Vizianagaram.

Before this, various states came forward and announced when they will start with the college reopening. Karnataka government on August 26th said that its colleges will start from October 1st and schools will be in partial functioning from 21st September.

With the BTech colleges in Hyderabad looking forward to having students on campuses the engineering entrance exams will be commenced by end of September and updates will be shared about the same.

Engineering Colleges in Hyderabad have started taking all the safety and hygiene precautions so that they can welcome the new session and freshers without any fear and get on board with the classes.

The most recent update concerning the Engineering College reopening comes from Haryana where the government has allowed the colleges and universities to open from September 26 but before that, they should report about the facilities at the campus on or before the 25th

The decision regarding the reopening of educational institutions was first taken by the central government where they agreed to the partial opening of schools in different states for students 9-12 from September 21.

While some states agreed to this decision others did not know the various state governments are looking forward to reopening Engineering Colleges in Hyderabad by October 15 or as and when the situation allows them to do so. The new normal is currently all we have now and educational institutions around the country are trying to adjust to the same.
