About Civil Engineering

VGNT has started B.Tech Civil Engineering in 2011, with an intake of 60. There are four faculties working in the department. The students of the department are allowed to participate in Intra and Intercollegiate level paper presentation, technical Quizzes and Project work competitions. In Vignan engineering college, they are also allowed to participate in literary competitions, cultural activities and Sports and Games to boost their social morals. The students bought laurels to the department and to the civil engineering college in Hyderabad, in turn. Industrial visits are arranged for students. The Department has well equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for Surveying, Soil Testing, Cement and Concrete Testing, Highway Material Testing, Quality Testing of water and wastewater samples.

To train the students with the best teaching-learning process in transforming them into outstanding professionals with research aptitude and leadership skills which prepare the innovative minds of budding engineers to face the future challenges through continuous industry-institute interaction.

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principle of mathematics, natural science and engineering science.

  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental

  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

  • Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

  • Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

  • Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

  • Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

  • Engineering Fundamentals: Graduates shall demonstrate sound knowledge in analysis, design, laboratory investigations and construction aspects of Civil Engineering infrastructure, along with good foundation in mathematics, basic sciences and technical communication.

  • Broadness and Diversity:Graduates will have a broad understanding of economic, environmental, societal, health and safety factors involved in infrastructural development, and shall demonstrate ability to function within multidisciplinary teams with competence in modern tool usage.

  • Self-Learning and ServiceGraduates will be motivated for continuous self – learning in engineering practice and/ or pursue research in advanced areas of Civil Engineering in order to offer engineering services to the society, ethically and responsibly.

  • Professional Excellence: Professional Excellence: To impart proficiency in engineering knowledge and skills to analyze, design, build, maintain or improve civil engineering based systems.
  • Understanding Socio-Economic Aspects:To offer broad education and practical skills so that the students can carry out technical investigations within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, societal, safety and sustainability.
  • Technical Collaboration:To impart ability to collaborate with and function on multidisciplinary teams to offer engineering solutions to the society.
  • Continued Self-Learning:To create interest in the students forcontinuous learning in advanced areas of civil engineering and related fields.
